We are proud to announce that we have been appointed as the new contractor for North Lincolnshire Council. This is for the disposal of domestic waste collected from households across North Lincolnshire.
Household waste is collected by the council and delivered, checked for contamination and bulked up at the waste transfer station located off Midland Road in Scunthorpe. From there it is taken to Transwaste’s processing facility where plastic and metals can be extracted for recycling. Any remaining waste is then converted to fuel for use in generating energy.
Cllr Neil Poole, cabinet member for Investment, Assets and Employment, said
“Up to 75,000 tonnes of our waste could be collected each year and processed at the waste transfer station. Transwaste will take 45,000 tonnes of leftover non-recyclable residual waste to their facility to manufacture into refuse-derived fuel for use in energy production. Garden waste is sent for composting.
“This new arrangement will help divert around 90 per cent of residual waste in North Lincolnshire from going to landfill, and save taxpayers £84,000 next year.
“It is vital that we recycle as much waste as possible to reduce our carbon footprint, now and in the future and to keep the costs of dealing with the waste we produce as low as possible so that resources can be best used to continue providing other key public services in the area.”
